Going Back to Health School: the RN to BSN or MSN

bigstockphoto_Doctors_4026118Working adults turn to education as a means of career growth. The belief is that a college degree can open closed doors and accelerate a career, bringing about a new facet to our professional lives.

Yet the everyday worker has a full-time work schedule–and other commitments like family, friends, and personal interests–that get in the way of pursuing an education. This is where online education comes in. Through the flexibility and versatility of an online degree, an otherwise impossible educational goal becomes probable, facilitating an environment where it is easier to juggle a current job, a future goal, and other  commitments all in a 24/7 lifestyle.

But what about occupations that would require a highly specialized education, like nursing? It’s not unusual for practiced nurses, like any other business professional, continue to seek further education to bolster their career. Does this flexible alternative still exist?

The answer is yes–there are online nursing degree programs that allow the RN to move to a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing), or from RN to MSN (Master of Science in Nursing). The online nursing degree program is offered in both normal and accelerated BSN programs and MSN programs, meaning that the Bachelor of Science in Nursing can take as little as or as long of time as the student requires.

For students interested in a nursing degree online that do not have an RN experience, there are also MS Nursing programs available. The MSN programs have further specialties, like the specialties commonly found in MBA programs, that direct the student’s healthcare career in the desired direction.
